Collet chucks: old idea, great high speed machining
Most mechanics start training by screwing the chuck chuck into a manual vertical mill.

Like a mechanical pencil, the chuck is easy to clamp, easy to understand, can produce a good wedge effect, strong clamping. However, for more complex high-speed milling, chuck-type clamping has another advantage: symmetry.

This natural static balance helps to reduce vibration problems at high speeds, making chuck chucks ideal for high feed rates and finishing. Compared with shrinkage clamping, the tool is simple and fast, and does not require special fixtures or tools. It is particularly important that the chucking jitter characteristic is twice the shrink fit and 10 times higher than the side locking tool holder.

The chuck is basically a series of concentric wedges acting on the tool shank, like any wedge, the greater the force applied, the greater the force of the clamping tool.
